Bourbon and Bon Vivants

stuff your Daddy should have taught you....

19 March, Delphi Greece

Thursday, March 20, 2008

i am very tired today.
and perhaps a wee bit hungover.

gina went back to the hotel around 9pm last night.
i stayed at the internet cafe to have a ciggie and some wine.
and well, perhaps to watch the french schoolgirls.
(shrug)

i ran into some people from the tour group
and we had a bottle or 2 of wine at the internet cafe.
we then moved to another bar after the cafe closed
and drank a wee bit of whiskey.
just to be social, of course.
it was wacky times.
oh yah....don't ya know.

and this morning i drank a half bottle of wine for breakfast
to be fair, i drank it with a feta/olive sandwich.
but still...i DRANK my breakfast.
good lord, how old am i?

but back to last night...
so apparently, gina woke up around1:30am
and got worried that i hadn't returned to the hotel room.
and obviously, the huge metropolis of delphi (both streets)
rife with naughty french schoolgirls
would cause one to wrap the draperies of their couch about them
and lie down to pleasant dreams
(that last bit was from Thanatopsis...)

anyhoo....gina stormed down the street and into the bar
where i was sitting with grandparents from our tour group
and caused a HUGE scene.
she told me that the hotel was now closed
and that i was to come back with her RIGHT NOW
THIS VERY INSTANT.
that she had been worried, etc.

i just looked at her with squinted eyes
and shrugged (in a very greek way)

and that mark around my neck...
it's from the chain that just got jerked.

life lessions & pink bats

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

and so, children
what is the life lesson learned today?

pink bats are not the best tool for extinguishing smoke alarm low battery warnings while wearing open toe, yet sensible, footwear.
but because it supported breast cancer awareness
the ends justified the means.

discuss.
please post responses via carrier pigeon.

calgon...take me...please

just freakin' take me away.

i was freezing last night.
woke up cold
but too sleepy to actually

GET UP

and get a blanket.

so this morning
it was 50 degrees in the house
because apparently the compressor
in the heater burner thing-y
got taken away by calgon
instead of me.

and the smoke alarm battery decided
express its sympathy for the heater
by emitting a pastoral beep
every 22 seconds
even after i removed it from the wall
with a limited edition
boston red sox breast cancer awareness bat

then my cell phone rang (showing a 401 area code)
and a psu student on the other end
saying he had my dog in his car
(when did clem get out?)
and that he just dropped her off.

um...dude....WHERE did you drop her off
because i'm standing here in the living room
with a seriously dead smoke alarm
a pink bat
fuzzy pants
barefoot
wild-eyed
and cranky.
i do not suffer fools lightly

he said he left her at the house
on the corner
the with the 2 green doors.
he put her in the hallway
behind the door on the right.

um...the house on the corner has RED doors.
and THAT IS NOT MY HOUSE.

and so...
wearing a t-shirt that said "do it doggie style"
fuzzy pants
and a pair of tasteful black merrell slip-ons
i slide across the frozen pond
that is my porch, sidewalk & driveway
pick up my dog
and return to the cold comfort of home.
