Bourbon and Bon Vivants

and other stuff your Daddy should have taught you....

what time is it?
christ...what day is it.
this morning i was in london
and now i'm sitting in boston
there were 15 voice mails to be answered.

and i was supposed to go to florida
tomorrow morning
for business, but they couldn't get ahold of me
perhaps i'll just go later

london was cold.
and expensive
but the indian food at Everest on Craven Road
Paddington is still as good as ever
and the Cork and Bottle Wine Bar
(Address: 44-46 Cranbourn Street,
London WC2. Telephone: 020 7734 78070
in Leicester Square is still my favourite

brought back a bunch of wine
forgot to do my damn VAT..nuts
realized the only chocolate i brought back
was orange chocolate
which is MY favourite, but not sure about
anybody else

crikey.
ok. i'm in london
i've already taken the wrong subway
twice.
sigh.
and i forgot to bring the address on the hotel.

not my best start.
but then again...
london is no worse the wear

everybody polka!

i'm leaving for london tomorrow.
there is scotch to buy
and high tea to attend.

the scotch dinner was a success
except apparently my loft
is not sound proofed at all
the neighbors upstairs complained
about the noise at 8pm on a saturday night
and we didn't even have any music playing
nor were we dancing
on the tables nor otherwise

i took the upstairs neighbor
a bottle of wine to apologize
and hopefully soothe over
any animosity
wonder if i should have mentioned
he's supposed to have 60% of his
bare concrete floor covered by
rugs, as per the condo agreement

perhaps next time.

met with my financial advisor this morning
pity i'm not as rich as i am good looking

i'm going to get 2 new business cards:

1) professional finder & buyer
*if you want it, i'll find it

2) professional organizer
*if you need to cleaned out, sorted and cataloged

will probably wait on the professional tango
dancer card. perhaps until i learn to tango.

went back up to NH today
to visit bridget, sadie, maggie, et. al
at the old red mill.
told them if they ever wanted to sell
i'd be first in line
provided i'm not already living in their
guest house

kitchen? who needs a kitchen.....

had salmon sashimi for breakfast
and smoked salmon for dinner
i sense a theme
but can't quite put my finger on it

oh, and the Mike's Light
premium malt beverage
is quite tasty
and only 2 carbs
who knew?

Wednesday, February 18, 2004

found a single malt pot still
speyside scotch,
Prime Malt - Reverence
distilled at Macallan in 1968
(a terrible year for wine & political leaders
but a fine year to be born an aquarian)

anyhoo. this scotch was
aged in oak casks for 30 years
yet it's extremely mellow
i got a nose of honey, aged grass or old haystacks,
and a hint of green rind..perhaps green cantaloupe?
it was velvet on the palate
and the finish was a bit smoky, like the smell of burning hay
and a hint of rind.

we'll be opening this bottle saturday night
at the scotch club
stay tuned.

Tim's Tavern
I'd forgotten how it could be.
we used to go there in college
there was no cash register
just a couple guys in the back
hand forming 1/2 lb hamburgers
you threw a couple bucks in
an old cigar box
and called it even.

tim's is still there
and the burgers are still hand formed
but now the bartender will take your order
and they even have martini's
still, for $4.75 you can't beat it

i am STILL not getting all my mail
this new loft....sigh
people tell me they've sent me mail
it never shows up
bills aren't forwarding

Wednesday, February 11, 2004

two words:
BBQ Pork Rinds

nothing can clear a room faster
and yet i find them strangely endearing
not unlike a pug

Tuesday, February 10, 2004

the pria carbselect
peanut butter caramel nut bar
is tasty
and only 2g impact carbs

it's the best of the pria lineup
and WAY better than the luna lo-carb
which is a pity because i loved the luna bars

one can pair the pria with
basil hayden's 8yr old bourbon
but i'd wait until at least 10am
otherwise the neighbors will talk

and Distillers Masterpiece has
reintroduced it's 20-yr old bourbon
hallelujah
(giggle)

Monday, February 09, 2004

made chinese dumplings last night
in my own house
even went out and bought a steamer

combined with the Hess Select chardonnay
it wasn't bad
although, i'm not becoming a dim sum chef
anytime soon

i will add that the white burgundy
at the Algonquin club on Friday was outstanding
as was the meal
as was the entire evening
well, except that the celtics lost

Friday, February 06, 2004

off to the algunquin club for dinner
i DO so enjoy the old club
with it's 15 ft ceilings
and it's old money
not to mention the best coffee
i've ever had

then to the celtics game

Thursday, February 05, 2004

i want the ford hybrid escape
it was supposed to be ready last fall
then summer 2004
and now fall 2004, maybe

i need to catalog my new whiskies

so much to do

good thing i don't have a job

Wednesday, February 04, 2004

can it really be seven years
since i lived with PK?
holy bat guts.
it seems like yesterday.

and i smoked a cigar last night, too
the Ambrosia Vann Reef
for those of you keeping score at home
such a lovely cigar
sweet
and does well with Magic Hat #9

loved livin' with PK
and her PeeWee Herman doll
and playing soccer all the time

bad news.
greta got into a wee dog fight
a scuffle really
but she may lose an eye

this is very traumatic for me
i can only imagine what it must be like
for her

oh, and i had a lovely birthday
opened a new bottle of charbay
and celebrated

tried the 17 yr old Islay Balwhinnie
as i like to call it
man-alive, it was rough
couldn't add enough water
blech.

serves me right...
i'm old enough to know better
