the best way to make a martini...
Tuesday, December 28, 2004
according to winston churchill,
Glance at the vermouth bottle briefly
while pouring the juniper distillate freely.
good man, that winston
and i shall again quote mental floss
when i tell you
James Bond does not drink martinis - technically
a martini contains only GIN, vermouth, and an olive.
Bond's vodka martinis would be the equivalent of
racing in the Tour de France
on a bike with a banana seat
(hmmm..that was the mental floss anology,
i think i can do better)

I prefer the martini over the vodka martini, myself. Martinis are what I would drink with my father, along with a bit o' scotch, and the gin & tonic.... I didn't drink vodka until I met you and G. :o)
i hate it when you get all technical on me. but Im so not a gin fan, and I love my martini glasses. I feel so small being forced to call it a vodka-tini. that sounds so crass, it makes me want to just drink straight out of the grey goose bottle. a purist! and I agree with your assessment of Winston, I circle the open vermouth bottle over the chilled glass and toss some in the sink drain. It's the ceremony of it, really!
and just because it popped in my head...at least I wouldn't have bruises riding the banana seat for all those miles! :)
