you know...yesterday when i wrote
it had been a helluva week
i had NO IDEA...
it's really all about perspective

yesterday was my first day on the job
i wore my new suit
and new shirt
that i bought the day before at jcrew
not on sale
thankyouverymuch
even wore new underwear
for those of you keeping score

at 12:30 i was riding to an appointment
with my co-worker
in her little sassy red car
when she made a left turn at a traffic light
directly into the path of an oncoming car

i saw it happen in slow motion
just like they say
and i thought
*this is gonna hurt*
then...


BAM

and i was right
it did hurt

the car slammed into the passenger side
which is where i was sitting
as i was the passenger
the force blew out the windows
spun us around
knocked my glasses off
and trapped me in the car

time passed
and the next thing i knew there were EMTs
talking to me
i couldn't move
they used the jaws to remove me from the car
strapped me to a back board
using duct tape....we'll come back to that
and took me to the hospital

funny thing.
without my glasses
i didn't know where i was
or who anyone was
and when i woke up and saw all the white lights
i thought i might have died

ok. perhaps, it wasn't really all that funny.

i couldn't move.
i didn't know where i was
and no one knew me
my poor co-worker had known me
all of 3 hours
and couldn't tell them anything about me

and they'd cut off my clothes
sigh.
by the way, mom, it didn't really matter
if i had on clean underwear or not

10 hours, a morphine drip, and 400 x-rays later
i was declared a miracle
without a single broken bone

i all but walked away from an accident
that by all rights should have killed me.
the EMTs and police were stunned.
